Nigerian Dr Hallowed Oluwadara Olaoluwa made history by becoming the youngest PhD holder of Mathematics in Africa at the age of 24 years.
He was born on September 27, 1989, into the family of Pastor & Mrs Olaoluwa, in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR).
He began his primary education at the age of five and progressively got four double-promotions in his pre-tertiary education (between primary 5 and higher school).
At the age of 14 years, he became the youngest student to pass the French Baccalaureate, Science (HSC or ‘A’ Levels) in the CAR.
At age 15, he proceeded to the University of Bangui through direct entry – graduating three years later with First Class Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Physics respectively, courses he offered concurrently.
Back home in Nigeria, Olaoluwa undertook the National Youth Services with the Department of Mathematics, University of Lagos, and subsequently enrolled for the PhD programme in the same department.
He graduated, in a record two years and 10 months, as the Best Overall Graduating PhD student of the University of Lagos (2013) and the youngest PhD holder in Mathematics in Africa.
Dr Olaoluwa is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, University of Lagos. Apart from grooming a number of award-winning students for national and international competitions, he has authored several papers in learned journals in America and Europe.
