In the face of police brutality and utter destruction of police stations and lynching of personnel by aggrieved youths, Rabiu Garba, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Fegge Division, Onitsha, has received praises for his good works which have saved his station from being burnt down by a rampaging #EndSARS youths looking for where to vent their anger.

The officer who hails from Yobe State had served the community by ensuring common folks are safe and free, built a borehole for the neighbourhood without any fundraising and organised soccer tournaments for the youths of Fegge at their stadium where he also goes to play table tennis weekly.

These good deeds, however, came back to play and protect, him, his men and his station when confronted with an angry mob that was going around the town looking for police officers to lynch and police stations to burn. The officers and men of the station were highly terrified and battle-ready. But he warned his men not to fire a shot. The DPO came out and immediately the mob saw him, their songs changed from war songs to songs of praises for the DPO.

The DPO addressed them on the need to remain peaceful and maintain order. He counselled them, spoke kindly to them and everyone hailed him with an assurance that they would ensure nothing happens to him and his men. They even prepared food and brought to him just to ensure that he is fine in the face of the crisis.

In all, not a stone was thrown at Fegge Police Station where Garba is the DPO, not because he is a lawyer but as a human rights defender with a good heart to serve.
