Dangote disburses scholarship fund in Kogi

The Dangote Coal Ltd in Kogi State has disbursed the yearly scholarship fund to the beneficiaries in the host communities.

The disbursement was done at a ceremony attended by top traditional leaders, government officials, Dangote Coal staff and members of the communities.

Most of those who attended the disbursement ceremony at the weekend described the Dangote Group as one of the most socially responsible companies in Nigeria.

The Onu of Ojukwu, HRH Alhaji Muhammad Ogbe who is the most senior traditional leader in Ankpa, urged the communities to be peaceful and support Dangote Coal, adding that company was a blessing to his people.

He said the Dangote Coal has provided jobs and hope for his people.

Speaking, the Coordinator of the Dangote Coal Ltd, Alhaji Usman Jibrin said he was elated that the scheme has continued to run for years consecutively.

Speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the ceremony, Mr Jibrin said five beneficiaries were selected from each community, adding that the people in all the communities were very impressed by the gesture and the selection process.

Listing other interventions in the communities, the coordinator said boreholes have been constructed in each community.

Other philanthropic gestures of Dangote Coal in the communities include the construction of roads, the creation of empowerment scheme for women through a revolving loan, the construction of clinic and school, among others.

According to him, all the projects being executed were contained in the extant Community Development Agreement, commonly agreed by both the company and the host communities.

He also hinted that the Environmental Impact Assessment was being readied.

Recall that the Dangote Group has doled out billions in Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme around several communities hosting his investments.
