Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has approved the 2019 promotion of 2,248 workers in the state’s workforce, this was announced by the State Head of Civil Service, Effiong Essien, during the official opening ceremony of a 5-Day Capacity Building Retreat for Officers on grade levels 13 to 17 in Uyo on Tuesday.

Essien explained that the governor’s approval is a clear indication that he is a worker-friendly governor following the government’s numerous welfare packages for workers.

He, however, noted that the newly promoted civil servants are those from grade levels seven and above.

“In his avowed commitment to the development of workers and growth of the Civil Service, Governor Udom Emmanuel has approved the release of the 2019 promotion to 2, 248 workers in the state government employees,” Essien said.

The promotion according to the head of the service is coming at the nick of time in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic to buffer the economic spending of families of workers promoted.

Despite the widespread remarks within and outside the civil service in the state, the head of the service charged workers not to relent in their dedication and support in helping the governor achieve his promises to the people of Akwa Ibom.
