NAERLS predicts stability of food amidst recession reports

The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) has predicted the stability and sustenance of agricultural produce across the country after a recent wet season agricultural performance survey published by the ministry of agriculture today at the federal ministry of agriculture, Abuja.

The public presentation in celebration of World Food Day with the theme “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together our actions are our future” was aimed to make good use of the wet season to increase production agricultural produce.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director, National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Professor Mohammed Khalid Othman, said, “The conducted research is to get data on how crops grow and its production of crops, the supply, the farmers access to input for the year and availability to access input of agricultural resources, fertilizer, seed, tractor, herbicide, and other tools to have a bountiful harvest”.

The director who also commended farmers for their resilience and perseverance to feed the nation in spite of the pandemic that affected every sector of the economy noted that the crops and livestock that have depreciated during the COVID-19 pandemic crises leading to panic in citizens, would not affect the general feeding output of the nation.

‘This also put hope in the face of Nigerians after world bank and other economic institution prognosticated potentially the most severe downturn in four decades, even if the outbreak is contained’, he said.

However, the agency advised the government to invest in climate-smart agriculture, improve the strategy to strengthen agricultural extension activities, building a lasting and sustainable grass root extension delivery institutions at federal and state levels with an effective input subsidization blueprint.
