Boko Haram has beheaded 43 farmers in Zabarmari, about 20km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to an online newspaper HumAngle, bodies of the 43 victims arrived on Saturday evening but Zabarmari residents insisted they would not be buried until the state governor saw their bodies.

In its own report, Reuters, citing three sources, said the attack, at Kwashebe Zamarmari in the Jere local government area, happened late morning as the workers were harvesting rice.

According to a village leader, a local fighter with the Zamarmari group and a police source, a search by the authorities for the attackers has been mounted.

The military and police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
