Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Gov Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe on Thursday pledged to increase support for the judiciary for speedy dispensation of justice.

Mala-Buni made the disclosure in Damaturu at the inauguration of the state Legal Research and Development Centre.

He noted that effective judiciary would protect the rights of the people, ensure equity and fair play.

“ This administration has great respect for the fundamental human rights of the people as enshrined by the constitution.

“ Therefore, we will continue to support the judiciary to adopt modern technological methods to migrate from traditional time consuming methods; as the saying goes : justice delayed is justice denied,” Mala-Buni said.

The governor also said he would sustain the cordial relationship between the judiciary and the executive for socio-economic development of the state.

He charged the judiciary to make good use of the facility so as to encourage government to provide more projects to the judiciary.

Earlier, the Chief Judge of Yobe, Justice Gumna Kaigama, said the centre comprised conference hall, training centre and e-library.

He said the centre was established to train judicial officers, magistrates, lawyers and would soon be extended to undergraduate law students.

“ As at present this centre is well equipped with 30 sets of computers, 30 batteries and three inverters. In addition, software is installed in the centre to cater for their research needs,” he said.
