Story from Shafa’atu DAUDA, Kano

The Police in Gboko, Benue state have arrested one Engineer Cyprian Awua, who allegedly had been claiming to be a Consultant with the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB).

Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mr Joseph Utse, in a statement, said the arrest was made possible because of the timely intervention of the Education Secretary of Gboko Local Government, who informed him about the development.

Mr Utse said the suspect, Engineer Awua, had earlier carried out a similar act in Konshisha Local Government area of the state but luck ran out on him in Gboko when he directed the Education Secretary of Gboko to immediately report him to the Police.

He advised youths to shun criminality and embrace agriculture to earn a living in line with Governor Samuel Ortom’s policy.

The SUBEB Chairman warned applicants not to give money to anybody for recruitment at the Board because the Board had not advertised for employment, adding that when Government gives approval, the public would be duly informed about it and advised the public to always report such people to the nearest Police Station.

Speaking on the issue, the Permanent Member One at the Board, Mr Mike Kusah, who lamented the situation where someone was using SUBEB’s name to defraud the people, advised applicants to always confirm information about the Board from the Zonal Offices or Educational Secretaries before taking any action.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command, Sewuese Anene, who confirmed the arrest said the suspect, Engineer Awua, is currently undergoing interrogation with the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police Headquarters in Makurdi.
