Senator Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo state has floated a new political party to be called “New Nigeria Movement”.

Okorocha, who is a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made this known in Abuja at a round table meeting with his ‘political structure’ cut across the 36 states of the federation.

At the meeting, he emphasized the need for a change in the political system in the country, describing the APC as a failure.

He called on his supporters to remain intact and steadfast, as according to him, “a new Nigeria Nation will be born through NNM party’ which he hopes will pave way for his presidential ambition in the 2023 general elections.

A communique issued to journalists after the meeting named Professor Obiareri (a fmr Commissioner for Information in Imo state) as co-ordinator of the new party in Imo State.

“The pioneer members are drawn from the 36 states of the federation, united with desire to pave a way for a political direction for equity, trust, unity and mutual co-oexistence.

“NNM is made up of experienced leaders of conscience and democratic ideologies to drive a new popular political intervention that will urgently save Nigeria from the precipice of political anarchy and civil strife” the communique read in part.

It also stated that the group has merged with the Action Alliance Party AA and a faction of the APC.

Those present at the meeting include;; former governorship candidates, Federal House of Rep members, supporters and co-ordinators of the new political party.

In weeks to come Rochas Okorocha will be perfecting plans for his official decamping from APC to NNM to further his presidential ambition.
