The Senate has confirmed Ahmed Kuru as the Managing Director of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) for a second term in office in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.
Kuru’s nomination was confirmed on Wednesday after a report was presented by Senator Uba Sani, Chairman of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions at plenary.
In December, President Muhammadu Buhari reappointed Kuru for a final term of five years. The president had based his request on section 10(1) of the AMCON act of 2010.
While presenting his report, Sani said Kuru met all the requirements expected of him and was unanimously adopted by the senators.
Also, Eberechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismail were confirmed as executive directors in AMCON.
The Senate also confirmed Bello Hassan and Mustapha Ibrahim as managing director and executive director of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan referred the nominations of Abayomi Olonisakin, former chief of defence staff; Tukur Buratai, former chief of army staff; Ibok-Ete Ibas, former chief of naval staff; Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff; and Mohammed S. Usman, former defence chief; to the committee on foreign affairs.
The President had nominated them as non-career ambassadors.
The foreign affairs committee is expected to report back to the plenary in two weeks for further legislative action.
The nominations of Lucky Irabor, as chief of defence staff; Ibrahim Attahiru, chief of army staff; Awwal Gambo, chief of naval staff; and Isiaka Amao, chief of air staff; were referred to the joint committees on army, navy and air force.
The joint committee is expected to report back in two weeks.
