The Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has promised to complete the 132-km Damaturu/Maiduguri dual carriage way by June.

One of project site manager while speaking to newsmen disclosed at the project site near Maiduguri that the remaining 40-km road to the state capital would be completed by June, this year.

“You can see our construction and earth moving machines are on site,” he said; adding that about 10 trucks are also on site to quicken the laying of laterite and road priming before surfacing it with two inch asphalt.

He said that the priming has reached 50%, while the remaining half to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital will also be completed before the rain sets in.

He also urged the people to be patient, as the delay to complete the road was mainly caused by the over a decade insurgency that claimed many lives and property.

The Kano/Maiduguri road awarded in 2005 by the Obasanjo administration to link various towns and communities in the Northeast but the remaining 40-km Jakana/Maiduguri road, could not be completed, as Boko Haram terrorists torched eight construction machines and bulldozers in April, 2018.

During the same period over two dozen people were killed with the kidnapping of 45 commuters along the same uncompleted road.

He also noted that with the security being provided by the military, the road project would be completed.
