Story from Najib Sani, Bauchi

Nigerian ambassador to Germany Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has asserted that herdsmen contribute immensely to Nigeria’s economy just like the farmers.

The envoy who was answering questions from journalists Monday in Udobo village, Gamawa local government area of Bauchi state shortly after revalidating his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made the assertion.

He said herders contribute to the agricultural sector in terms of animal production while farmers produce foods calling on the Dou to live harmoniously.

According to him, the endemic farmers/herders’ clashes occur due to the growing population and search for arable land.

The ambassador faulted the vacation order being issued to herders in some parts of the country opening that it is not the right approach as grazing is the herders’ way of life.

“Trans-humans is itself a way of life. Even in Europe that people keep talking about. Some people looking down on herdsmen and thinking that they are inferior and backward will find that even in Europe there is a gypsy and in the US there is cowboy”. He said.

On the APC registration exercise, Tuggar said he was satisfied with the turn out of people in the area during the ongoing exercise opening that it was an indication that APC is popular in the state despite the fact that the state governor is from the People Democrat Party (PDP).
