The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Borno State Government have mobilised resources to quickly restore electricity supply to Maiduguri, and its environs.

The power supply was interrupted after damage to high tension towers (T159, T160 and T161) of the 330 kilovolts (kV) Damaturu-Maiduguri Transmission Line in the North East.

According to a statement by TCN spokesman Ndidi Mbah released yesterday, the company has completed a new foundation for Tower T159 and procured the tower members and materials to replace the two that were damaged.

She said the Acting Managing Director, TCN, Sule Abdulaziz; Borno State Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Yuguda Vungas; and Managing Director, Yola Electricity Distribution Company, Baba Mustapha, were at the TCN Maiduguri Work Centre to inspect the ongoing replacement of the damaged towers.

Abdulaziz said TCN is also constructing a temporary by-pass line that would readily ensure supply to the affected areas before the main tower structures are completed.

“I want to assure you that TCN is committed to doing all that is possible to make sure that the power supply is restored as quickly as possible,” he said.

The TCN head also said the upgrade project for the Damboa-Maiduguri transmission line has been procured and would soon provide a second source of power supply to Maiduguri and environs

The Borno State Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Engr. Yuguda Sadeh Vungas, emphasised Prof Babagana Zulum, the Borno State governor’s commitment to ensuring that light is restored in Maiduguri and environs, adding that he would do all it takes to lend the necessary assistance to TCN to facilitate the project.
