Yobe state electoral commission assures on Feb. 27 LG Poll

Arrangements are in top gear for the forthcoming local government councils elections in Yobe State scheduled for Saturday, 27th February, the State Independent Electoral Commission, has said.

In a press conference yesterday, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr Mamman Mohammed, explained that in collaboration with Independent National Electoral Commission, they are able to print out an updated voter’s register which contains One Million, Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Voters “this is arranged according to the 17 local government and 178 wards with 1714 polling units.”

He added that in collaboration with the consultants ‘My Choice Printing Engineering Solutions’ they were able to successfully train the Staff of the Commission, Electoral officers and Assistant Electoral officers for the 17 local governments of the state.

“In a system of training of trainers, the Electoral officers and Assistant Electoral officers conducted a training programme for Presiding officers, polling clerks at the local government levels which are successful”.

Mamman further disclosed that the Commission has 14 Hilux four-wheel Toyota vehicles to convey Electoral equipment to local government headquarters across the state, these vehicles he said are now made roadworthy and fully functional “they will set out on Thursday to respective local government see destinations”.

“We have 178 wards with One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fourteen 1,714 polling units and for each unit need 2 officials and Two security personnel.

“Already, we have offered an appointment to all the required number of Staff through the Electoral officers of the local government. Presiding officers 1,714, Polling Clerks 1,714, Supervisor Presiding officers 200, Ward Returning Officer 178, Local Government Returning Officer 17 and security men. Making a total of 7,242 people to man the election”.

He further revealed that FOSIECON an association of the Executive Chairman of State Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria, 36 members are invited to come as observers.
