Many people including a nursing mother have been killed on Wednesday in a multiple auto crash at two separate locations in Bauchi State.
Neptune Prime’s correspondent gathered that the first accident involved about 70 people of which eight died while two people died in the second accident.
The first accident, which occurred in the Darazo Local Government Area of the state, involved traders who overloaded a lorry heading to a local market in Dukku LGA of Gombe State.
The Chairman of Darazo LGA, Mahmud Bello Yayaji who confirmed the incident said that the side of the lorry broke and people fell off and as a result, six people died and over 60 injured.
Yayaji said the victims were admitted at Darazo General Hospital, while over three ambulances were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
He said the Primary Health Care Department of the LGA assisted the victims with first aid treatments and other needed support at the Darazo Hospital.
On his part, the Bauchi State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Assistant Corp Commander Yusuf Abdullahi said: “Yes, there was an accident this morning involving over 70 people who were in a truck going to Dukku market.
“The truck skidded off the road and threw the people away. They were hung on the truck. It took us (FRSC) hours to carry out the rescue operation and presently, the victims are being sorted out”.
He said that the exact number of casualties could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
Similarly, an accident occurred at Dungulbi village, about 10 KM away from Bauchi metropolis on the Bauchi – Gombe busy highway. The accident involved a Toyota Hummer Bus belonging to the National Tourism Development Commission (NTDC) which had aN head-on collision with a Sharon commercial bus conveying passengers to Gombe
Several people involved in the accident were severely wounded and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for prompt medical treatment.
It was gathered at the scene of the accident that the NTDC staff were heading back to Abuja having spent a few days at the Yankari Games Reserves and Safari on an official assignment.
The Hummer Bus was trying to overtake a heavy-duty truck but ended up having a head-on collision with the oncoming Sharon commercial bus.
