Story from Najib SANI, Bauchi
The chairman of Bogoro Local Government Council of Bauchi State, Iliya Habila, on Tuesday distributed 100 wheelchairs to physically challenged persons in the area to alleviate their transportation challenges.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony in Bogoro, Habila said the gesture was in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as ‘Beautiful Gate Handicapped Centre’.
The Handicap Centre was founded by Mr Ayuba Burki Gufwan in 1999 with the aim of providing succour to the physically challenged people in the society.
Habila expressed his determination to come up with more social welfare programs that will ameliorate the hardship faced by the less privileged citizens of the LG.
“These are the best gifts ahead of the Easter Celebration and they are very timely as they will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the physically challenged.
“I assure my citizens that the council will soon roll out more skills acquisition pieces of training and other empowerment programmes for the physically challenged people”. He promised.
Earlier, the founder of the NGO, Mr Gufwan appreciated Bogoro’s Local Government council for partnering with his organisation and appealed to all tiers of government to support the physically challenged members of the society.
He disclosed that the presentation of the wheelchairs is one of the series of empowerment initiatives that his organisation is executing with a view to giving hope to people who are living with disability in society.
