Story from Haruna USMAN, Kebbi
The Kebbi state branch of the National Association of Automobile Technicians (NATA) has rejected what it described as an outrageous estimated billing from the Kebbi state district office of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
Speaking on behalf of the state congress, the Kebbi state chairman of the association Muhammad Sani, said his association will no longer tolerate estimated billing from the company. He added that long before mass metering was approved by the president for both commercial and residential customers his body had written severally to KEDCO and even indicated a willingness to buy the prepaid meters but to no avail.
He explained that to further reach a truce, his association involved the National electricity regulation commission as a mediator who held hearings on the matter and resolved that the power company must provide metres or agree on an affordable bill to which both parties agreed but KEDCO reneged on the earlier agreement.
According to him, erratic power is affecting businesses, particularly welders among his members and at the end of the month, they bring huge estimated bills.
“We have recently written a second letter of complaint to KEDCO which we also copied NERC for second mediation but I want to warn here that our patience has been overstretched. If nothing is done we may be forced to withdraw our services, which will affect everybody as welders, vulcanizers, mechanics and other technicians under us will down tools to protest the killing of our businesses by KEDCO,” he said.
