The Yobe State Government has announced the closure of all boarding schools across the 17 local governments of the state, as part of proactive measures to safeguard the lives of the students.
The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Muhammed Sani Idris officially made the announcement on Monday in Damaturu while addressing newsmen.

According to him, the closure became imperative looking at the recent kidnaps around the Northwest.
Day schools were asked to continue with their normal academic activities while further statement would be made concerning the reopening of the boarding schools as soon as possible.
Idriss stated that the directive will not affect the SS 3 students who are preparing for their final exams.
Other Northern states which have also shut down boarding schools recently as a result of the insecurity include Kano, Niger and Zamfara states.
