The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged members to embrace entrepreneurship pointing out that anticipated white-collar jobs are no longer available.
Yobe State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Hafsat Yerima, made the call Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2021 batch ‘A’ stream I orientation course held at NYSC camp Dazigau in Yobe.
She said the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship skills training they have undergone in camp was a foundation to greater skills they will be exposed to during the post-camp training aspect of the service year.
“You are therefore advised to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the scheme to make yourselves self-reliant other than waiting endlessly for white-collar jobs that are elusive.
“More so that the scheme is partnering with institutions such as the Bank of Industry (BOA), Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as the NYSC Foundation to make available soft loans to enable you to start small scale enterprise. All you need is a good business proposal to access such a facility,” she said.
Mrs Yerima stated that the NYSC scheme is firmly founded on sound values such as humility, honesty, loyalty, and patriotism. She charged the corps members to uphold those tenets as they embark on the national service to the fatherland.
The NYSC boss also admonished them to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities and avoid associating themselves with anti-social groups throughout their service period.
