The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has put a smile on the faces of the Sabon Kaura Community in Bauchi Local Government Area when he supplied them with a 500KVA transformer after eight months of darkness.
This was disclosed to journalists today, Thursday 8 April 2021 in Bauchi, by the Senior Special Assistant on Projects to the Governor, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Azare, when he led the installation of the brand new transformer to the community.
Mr Azare said that when the Governor heard the complaint of the community and directed him to investigate and give a report and recommendations and immediately he submitted the report, the Governor directed him to provide the community with the 500 KVA transformer to boost electricity supply in the area.
Alhaji Azare explained that the Governor had set up a special committee that is going around the 20 LGAs of the State to restore the electricity supply in the communities that were cut off either due to one form or the other.
He said the ministry of power has also intervened on their behalf as some communities’ electric poles are destroyed while some, their transformers have blown up.
The SSA on Projects also disclosed that the government is constructing over 2000 boreholes to provide potable water to the communities in rural areas.
He commended the Sabon Kaura Community for their support and steadfastness towards the success of the exercise and assured them of the readiness of the state government to provide them with more social amenities.
Leader of the community and new village head of Sabon Kaura, Abdussalami Sarki Umaru said the timely intervention of the Governor has saved the community and restored more hopes to them; that the government of today is a listening government that cares about the plight of its people.
He explained that his elder brother, the late village head of Sabon Kaura died in the struggle to restore light to the community, “when the transformer damaged, he lodged a complaint to the Jos Electricity Distribution and he was advised to see one senior officer called Baba Jada, the day they were assembled to meet the Officer at 10 O’clock in the morning, he went to the mosque for early morning prayer and fell in the culvert and died”.
Umaru said his son is a welder and “for about eight months now, he cannot open his shop which also stops him from continuing with his education because we don’t have money to buy a generator to enable him to continue with his business.
“Not only my son but almost all businesses were also crippled in the area, we have to take our corn to Yelwa to grind it before we can be able to cook food.”
A school teacher in Sabon Kaura community, Fatima said, “presently we have 18 classrooms, the intervention solved our problems of water, the school is now up to standard, we have water toilet facilities, desks and chairs.
“Before the intervention, our pupils sat on the floor, we need more chairs and additional boreholes, we still welcome more renovations and more things for the school.
Ward Head of Birshi, Alhaji Lawal Ahmad said the entire community are excited about the project and are proud of the project because it brought succour to their community to alleviate their sufferings.
He assured that the community will support the project to give it the protection it deserves, that if the community has their own way, they could have restored the light but the transformer damaged.
“The damage is too much to the extent that we can’t salvage the situation until when the government intervened and provided our community with a bigger transformer, we thank the Almighty Allah for the intervention that saved not only our community but the entire communities in Sabon Kaura and its environs.
Before now, the Sabon Kaura community in the Bauchi Local Government area of Bauchi State lives in darkness due to lack of electricity in their area for nearly one year despite its closeness with Bauchi the State Capital.
The community is housing thousands of inhabitants including the students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; College of Agriculture, Bauchi; and there are also people from different ethnic groups residing in the area.
The 300 KVA transformer installed to provide electricity to the community 12 years ago damaged totally which paralysed many small businesses and brought untold hardship to the community.
Before the intervention of the Bauchi State Government under the Bala Muhammed Abdulkadir’s, youths in the area who normally use electricity for welding, saloon and grinding machine businesses to pay their school fees had to shut down the business which affected their academic activities because they couldn’t pay their school fees.
The Sabon Kaura community had lost hope of getting light soon after the death of their former leader who struggled to restore the electricity supply before his tragic demise.
However, the situation is different now because parents, youths, students and children are all happy due to the provision of the 500 KVA transformer that will restore electricity supply to the community.
