Imo catholic priest released by kidnappers after 48 hours

Rev. Prof. Izu Marcel Onyeocha of Claretian Missionary has been released by kidnappers.

The provincial secretary of Claretian Missionaries, Rev. Fr. Matthew Iwuagwu, confirmed this on Monday, as well as Mr Orlando Ikeokwu, the spokesman of the Imo state police command.

Marcel Onyeocha who is a priest as well as a philosophy lecturer at the State University, was abducted on Saturday, along Enugu-Port Harcourt Express Road at Ihube community in Okigwe council area of the state, when he was returning from Enugu to Owerri.

Fr. Iwuagwu added that Fr. Onyeocha, was dropped off at the Ihube Community in the Okigwe council area of the state at the early hours of Monday morning.

He also confirms that there was no ransom paid to release Fr. Onyeocha from custody.

“With grateful hearts, we wish to thank the Almighty God for the release of Fr. Izu Marcel Onyeocha from the den of the kidnappers,” Iwuagwu noted.
“The Provincial Superior has spoken with him. He is in stable condition. We wish to thank the Priests at St Mary Cathedral Okigwe for their care and hospitality.

“We also thank the security operatives for their assistance and appreciate everyone who stormed heaven with prayers. God is ever faithful and He answered us”.
