Unknown gunmen, Sunday night, kidnapped one person in Pegi community, in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This comes less than one month after another victim was kidnapped and a ransom of N2 million was paid before his release.
The Chairman of the Pegi Community Development Association (PECDA) Isaac Aderibigbe, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Abuja said: “The attacks on the community are becoming worrisome as residents now live in perpetual fear.
“Most frightening is when one of the lucky people that narrowly escaped heard the gunmen speaking in Hausa threatening to strike during the day time since most people now return home before evening, he said.
“The unknown gunmen, who wore army uniforms shot in the air and forcefully stopped cars on their way home. Unfortunately, Mr Laide Muhammad was not lucky enough as was whisked away and a ransom of N15 million was demanded for his release,’’ he added.

One of the victims who pleaded anonymity said: “I was coming back home, as I got to where the tarred road ends and where there is a heap of sand en route 1000 Units Gate in Pegi, I noticed that people were sitting on the bare ground and some people were standing.
“I saw this as a red flag, so I told my passenger that this is not right and I put my car on reverse. A man came out from the bush with a machete and hit the back of my car asking me to stop, I just continued to reverse.
“As I was reversing, I heard one of the kidnappers giving an order in the Hausa language, that they should not shoot because if they shoot they will alert other motorists and residents.
“Unfortunately, my car entered a ditch, so I came down and continued running toward Kuje town where I started turning other motorists back and one of the cars now picked me. We called the Divisional Police Officer for Pegi, who came and helped remove the car. I am still shaky and scared after that experience” he said.
