At the ongoing National Sports Festival taking place in Benin City, Edo State, Team Borno has once again recorded more victories in some events.
Zainab of Team Borno defeated her opponent from Team Bayelsa to claim the gold medal in the 48kg category of female Boxing.
The bout took place at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Airport Road indoor hall in Benin City.
Also in the male category of 48 kg, Isreal Makinde of Team Borno defeated Balogun Lawan of Team Ogun to claim another gold medal.
In an interview with Hauwa Kafi, the Secretary of Team Borno Boxing after the event, she said “I, first of all, thank Almighty Allah for making this a reality and I am highly delighted and proud with the performances of the team right from preparation, and the athletes prepared well and are ready to fight for medals and that dream has come true “.
Hauwa also acknowledged the effort and sacrifice of the Honourable commissioner, Youths Empowerment and Sports, honourable Saiina Buba under the able leadership of his Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the executive governor of Borno State, for giving all the necessary support.
The highlight of the event was the celebration and spray of cash by the coordinator, Team Borno, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed on both Male and female athletes.
