Five killed, 6 injured in Fika community over land tussle

A communal clash between Biyo and Kadi Community Members in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State has left five persons reportedly dead and 6 others sustaining various degrees of injuries, Yobe state police command has confirmed.

Reports gathered that a farmland dispute which has lingered for a year without proper resolution has degenerated into chaos.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Yobe Police Command Damaturu ASP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the incident, pointing out that the suspects have taken to their heels while the Police Division in the area engaged in trailing the suspects and perpetrators with a view to ensuring justice and peaceful coexistence in the area.

The injured victims have been admitted and receiving treatment at General Hospital, Fika.

When contacted, the Chairperson of Fika Local Government Council, Halima Kyari Joda declined to comment on the matter.

A community member who spoke on the condition of anonymity appealed to the local government Council and relevant critical stakeholders including the Community leaders “to settle the matter immediately to avoid further chaos”.
