Unidentified gunmen have shot a police officer in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja while he was trying to prevent the abduction of some residents in the Tungan-Maje community on Tuesday.

In a report by NaijaNews, a resident of the community, Ibrahim Saidu stated that the armed men engaged the police and vigilante in a shootout, shot and overpowered the police.

Saidu added that after the shooting, the gunmen abducted two people from the New Poultry area, Anguwar Samu in Tungan-Maje.

“The entire residents of Anguwar Samu were gripped with fear because of the gunshots but unfortunately, they succeeded in abducting two people,” he said.

He further stated that the police officer and a vigilante member who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
