Story from Fatima GIMBA, Abuja
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday arrested a 49-year-old man, Ubong Williams Akpan, for raping his 12-year-old daughter.
In a statement by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police spokesman in Abeokuta, he revealed that the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Itele Ota divisional headquarters by the victim who reported that her father has been abusing her sexually since she was seven-year-old.
The 12-year-old stated that the harassment had been going on for the past five years, and that she could no longer bear it, so she decided to report the case to the police.
Mr Ubong, upon interrogation, confessed to committing the crime, claiming that his wife is too old and unattractive.
The DPO Itele of Ota division, CSP Monday Unoegbe, upon the report, detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, directed that the victim be taken to the general hospital for proper medical treatment and ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the family support unit of the Ota area command for further investigation and prosecution.
