The Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) pipeline suffered a setback, Saturday, after a train conveying pipes for the gas plan broke down at Unguwan Kanawa area of Kaduna state.

According to an eyewitness, who narrated the incident to Neptune Prime, the train broke down at about 4:30 pm and also confirmed that there was no injury or death of passengers.

Residents blamed the accident on poor rail maintenance by the Works Ministry, adding that it could pose a great threat to passengers travelling from Rigasa to Abuja.

The 614km-long pipeline is an initiative by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to transport natural gas from southern Nigeria to central Nigeria and is expected to be completed by 2023.
