Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos

The police in Imo State have arrested five suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) operating the Eastern Security Network (ESN) over an alleged attack on Orji Police Station Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Bala Elkana PPRO.

According to Elkana, the suspects include Chigaemezu Sabastine 26-year-old, Casimir Ibe 3 6-year-old, John Chinonso 24-year-old, Chukwudi Okoro 28-year-old, and Alozie Daberechi 25-year-old.

He said three cars were recovered from the suspects and no life was lost.

Tuesday’s attack happened hours after suspected invaders burnt down the Iwollo Oghe Police station in Enugu in the South-Eastern part of the country.

The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, in the bid to address the attacks, launched a special operation last week designed to restore peace to the south-east.

Baba vowed to return the region “to its historical pride of place where its people are known to be peaceful, tolerant, innovative, industrious and entrepreneurial.”
