The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Adamawa State has vowed to boycott a media parley organised by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri to express their displeasure over the rough handling of three of its members by a police officer.
A policeman from MOPOL 14 Base in Yola, identified as Sergeant Ibrahim Adamu, attached to the office of Adamawa State Governor, Rt Hon Ahmadu Fintiri was said to have rough handled some members of the correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Yola International Airport.
The Correspondents’ Chapel in a Press Release alleged that two of its members were beaten and manhandled by the order of the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou.
The statement which was co-signed by the chapel’s Chairman and Secretary, Mr. Daji Sani, and Alao Onimisi respectively said the chapel henceforth will not give media coverage for any of the government activities including the media chat slated for Friday.
Consequently, the correspondents’ chapel resolved at an emergency Congress Thursday afternoon to boycott the media chat slated for Friday and other activities regarding the ongoing projects commission exercise of the Adamawa State Government.” The statement stated.
According to the Press Release, the incident happened today (Thursday) when the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel wanted to seek an audience with the Governor of Sokoto State, Rt Hon Aminu Tambuwal at the Yola International Airport’s Presidential lodge who commissioned a road project in Yola.
“Padio Phineas of the Nigerian Pilot suffered the most in the hands of the In-human policemen who slapped him and dragged him around. The Car of Emmanuel Samuel was damaged after the security personnel attacked him and three other members threatening to open fire on them in the car.
