Major General Faruk Yahaya on Friday has formally assumed office as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.
Yahaya replaced late Lieutenant-general Ibrahim Attahiru who died last week among 10 other officers in the NAF Beechcraft B300 King Air 350i crash near Kaduna International Airport, Kaduna State.

On arrival at the army headquarters, he first inspected the guard of honour at the sentry from where he proceeded to the conference room.
He then led others to observe a minute silence in honour of his late predecessor, Attahiru, and the 10 others.
With him not directly taking over from his predecessor, the new Chief of Army Staff received the flag of the Nigerian Army from General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
