Stroy from Najib SANI, Bauchi
Former students of the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Ogbonnaya Onu, of the University of Port Harcourt have endorsed him for president come 2023.
The ex-students of the minister of northern extraction under the auspices of the ‘Northern Nigeria’s Youths and Students Front for Ogbonnaya Onu 2023’ made the endorsement Tuesday in Bauchi when they donated clothes to orphans at Bauchi State orphanage home at state low-cost and at the Bauchi children remand house at Kobi quarters.
Spokesperson of the group, Isma’il Abubakar, in an interview with journalists after the distribution said members of the group who were taught by Onu deemed it good to contribute money to make the donation on behalf of the minister.
According to him, their endorsement of Onu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari was in consideration of his attributes and patriotism saying he appointed some northerners into his cabinet when he was governor of his state.
“He is a detrablised Nigerian, patriot, and peacebuilder. When he was governor, he appointed a northern Muslim as a commissioner in his government. When we were his students, he had been kind to us. Therefore, it is now time for us to enlighten fellow citizens because he should be the next president of Nigeria,” he said.
He added that from Bauchi, they would proceed to Gombe and Jigawa states to make similar donations.
Responding, the chairman of Bauchi Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency (BASOVCA) Hassana Arkila, represented by the head of child protection and rehabilitation of the agency, Adamu Abubakar, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries said although the government provides all the orphans needs at the centre, the door is open for donors to bring interventions.
