Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos
A Nigerian-based in Dubai, Kayode Badru has reportedly died after his pastor allegedly sprayed perfume on him while holding a lit candle during prayers.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Imole Parish, Alagbado, Lagos.
Reports say that the victim, who was known as a socialite flew into the country to celebrate with 40 students he had given scholarships and were graduating.
He was said to have visited the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) for prayers and asked to kneel down while surrounded by seven elders and several lit candles.
“He was holding a candle then the prophet of the church, Felix Alebiosu, sprayed perfume on his body from his head to his toe. Within a few minutes, his body caught fire. He suffered severe burns and was rushed to a hospital in Gbagada, Lagos. He died hours later,” as quoted by Celestial News Online.
The medium reports that the prophet who was conducting the prayers, Prophet Felix Alebiosu, ran away immediately after the incident but was later arrested alongside two out of the seven elders. They are currently at the Panti police station, Lagos for justice to be administered.
However, shortly after the death of Badru, the church body under the directive of Reverend EMF Oshoffa through AVSE Stephen Adeniyi, Admin Head, has given a directive to all of the parishes that if the spiritual perfumes will be used it should be mixed with water before spraying.
It stated: “Due to the incessant abuse of spiritual Perfumes within the Church, the Eminence, Reverend EMF Oshoffa has found it imperative to state for record purposes and correction that henceforth, Spiritual Perfumes intended to be sprayed, sprinkled, or poured with a lighted candle should be mixed with water.
“The spraying or pouring of undiluted Spiritual Perfumes in its volatile state with a lighted candle is an imported culture not originally part of the tenets of the Celestial Church Christ.
“The laid down usage of Spiritual Perfume within the spheres of a lit candle by the Pastor Founder, Saint SBJ Oshoffa is by mixing it with water, it is high time we retrace our steps for a greater Celestial Church of Christ.
“We are all advised to adhere to this directive, any Parish or member that goes against this directive will be solely responsible for the resultant effect.
“The Pastor has also directed the Pastor-in-Council to come up with a policy document to curb alien practices that have been introduced into the Tenets and Doctrines of the Church to safeguard the Church’s divine culture as instructed by the Spirit of God through the pastor founder.”
