Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Christopher Dega, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has been murdered.

Reports say that Dega was killed on Tuesday by some unknown gunmen in Jos, Plateau State capital.

In a report by Daily Post, the Plateau State’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Gabriel Obaba, as well as the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom confirmed the unfortunate incident.

According to the PPRO, the command has arrested some suspects in connection with the crime.

The statement reads, “The Plateau State Police Command on a sad note received an ugly report of the death of AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd).

“On 31/05/2021 at about 2030hrs, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd) was shot dead by three yet-to-be-identified gunmen in an isolated restaurant at Bukuru, Jos.

“From the investigation so far, it appeared that he was trailed and shot. He arrived at Jos from Makurdi on the same date at about 1930hrs.

“Some suspects have been arrested. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing,” he said.

He was shot several times in the chest and left to bleed to death.

The killing of Dega, a former Commissioner of Police in Borno and Edo states has increased the number of high profile Nigerians who have been murdered in cold blood by unknown gunmen without leaving traces.

Dega was survived by his wife Kashimana, son, siblings, in-laws, friends. The deceased hailed from Katsina-Ala local government area in Benue state.
