At least a total of 1.3million candidates who had successfully registered for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, have written the examination across the country on Saturday. June 19, 2021.

JAMB said 1.3 million candidates successfully registered for this year’s UTME, while over 75,000 registered for the Direct Entry exams.

Plus, parents and guardians who observed the process in some of the centres in and around the Federal Capital Territory, FCT commended the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB for the hitch-free conduct of the 2021 UTME.

Speaking to newsmen, some parents who accompanied their children to the venue of the examination at various centres expressed satisfaction with the process the exams was conducted.

“This is the second time my daughter is writing JAMB. I must confess that there is a great improvement, unlike last year that it was difficult for us to locate her Centre, it is quite different this year.

“With what I have seen so far, it is obvious that the exam body truly knows what they are doing”, said Mrs Judith Bello, a mother.

Equally, some candidates said the examination process was smooth.

“I was able to answer all the questions within the stipulated time. Even though I encountered some minor issues at the initial stage with my computer, but everything was later rectified.

“My answers to the questions were perfectly okay and I believe that I will pass”, said a candidate simply identified as Precious.

Though some of the candidates grumbled about the syllables changes they encountered, adding that the syllables have been switched and weren’t what they had expected, they stressed that literature in English questions didn’t tally with the novel’s jamb recommended to candidates.

The candidates said questions in their literature papers were different from the novels they were asked to read for the examination.

While some were utterly satisfied with the process, others lamented that questions that greeted them were different from what they studied, and also complained about the inadequate time allocated.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination will run till July 3, 2021.
