The Nigerian Government has said it is working towards making Nigeria a gas-enabled industrialised country in 2030.
Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva disclosed this on Thursday while fielding questions from journalists at the end of the 2021 Nigerian International Petroleum Summit (NIPS) which held from 6th to 10th June 2021 in Abuja, with the theme “From Crisis to Opportunities: New Approaches to the Future of Hydrocarbons.

He said, “We are to put all the discussions around gas together and thereafter create an actionable roadmap that everybody would see and know where we are aspiring to be as a gas-enabled industrialised nation in 2030.”
The Minister affirmed that his biggest takeaway from the event was that the summit validated the direction the ministry had already taken.
“When we started, the agenda we set for ourselves as a ministry, was to move the oil and gas industry more towards gas because we believed that aspect of the industry had never been fully explored and utilised.
“So at this submit we felt vindicated and validated because every discussant discussed gas and actually saw that gas is the way forward for Nigeria,” he said.
He noted that such moves did not yet fruit in the past because there was no roadmap for achieving the goal.
In the Minister’s closing remark, to mark the end of the summit, he renamed the summit as ‘Nigeria’s International Energy Summit (NIES)’ with effect from 2022.
