Mannir Salihu and Aliyu Yahaya, have been arrested by the Kaduna State Command for allegedly killing their friend over money they owed him.
According to the police, the deceased, Idris Bashir, was lured to an uncompleted building by his friends who eventually killed him and dumped his body in an abandoned well.
ASP Mohammed Jalige, the spokesperson of the state police command, disclosed to journalists that a complaint was made at the police command on June 5, 2021, by one Bashir of Zaria town at about 10 am, stating that his son, Idris Bashir, left home and never returned.
When the police asked the complainant if he has any suspicion, he said he was suspecting his son’s friend, one Mannir Salihu, as being responsible for his son’s disappearance.
The police spokesperson said “Upon accepting the formal complaint, it is binding on the Police to investigate with the view to unravelling the pre and post disappearance of the victim which led the Command to immediately launch a manhunt for the suspect.
“After apprehending the suspect, he disclosed that he and one Aliyu Yahaya ‘m’ of No. 94 Anguwan Magajiya, Zaria City lured the victim to an uncompleted building where they killed him and dumped the body in an abandoned well.
“The two confessed to having committed the crime, ending the victim’s life in order to avoid refunding the sum of three hundred and eighty-five thousand naira (N385,000.00) they owed him”.
ASP Jalige also explained how the suspects led the police to the crime scene and the body of the deceased was exhumed and taken to Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital for examination and later released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.
