It was black Friday in Awka, Anambra State as about eight children hawking wares at Kwata flyover junction in the state were allegedly killed by a truck carrying cows.

Youths who were angry by the development quickly mobilised and set ablaze the truck, including the cows.

According to a source, the accident happened when a truck was conveying cattle to an unknown location and lost its break while descending the Kwata junction’s slope, knocking down about eight hawkers and injuring four occupants of two other SUV cars.

The incident which happened about 2 pm attracted the angry youths, who burnt down the truck and the cattle, resisting attempts to free the cattle before setting ablaze the truck.

It is, however, unknown if the driver of the truck and his attendant were spared.

Attempts by the Anambra State Fire Service to put off the fire on the truck were defied by the angry youths.

The accident also caused traffic gridlock in many areas in Awka.

Meanwhile, there were shootings in the area by military personnel to disperse the angry youths who stopped attempts to tow the truck off the road to make way for the free flow of traffic.
