Democracy Day: Yobe, Borno chapter of NANS dissociate self from alleged protest


The Yobe and Borno states chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has dissociated itself from the alleged protest coming up on June 12, 2021 (Democracy Day).

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Comrade Usman Adamu Nagwaza (Don Manu), Deputy Senate President of NANS on Thursday.

According to the statement, a circular from the National Secretariat of NANS was given to all the 36 states to prepare for a protest on Democracy Day.

Nagwaza said the directive of the self disassociation from the protest, is for the interest of the states in order to continue in the maintenance of peace, unity and adequate security.

He also called for peace and unity among students and youths in the Yobe and Borno states and the nation at large.

The statement reads in full:

“I bring to your corridor greetings full of peace, not pieces and with immense grace not grasses at the trying moments where the nation is battling with security challenges, banditry, kidnapping and lots more.

“It’s not news that Northeastern states, precisely Yobe and Borno are facing security challenges for more than a decade. The workaholic governors of these states have been depositing all their energies towards achieving lasting peace and unity among the living souls of the states.

“His Excellency Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State have been working tirelessly to protect the lives and properties of all citizens by initiating Yobe State Security Summits and on the aspects of youth and students, His Excellency also sponsored citizens on foreign scholarships to study professional courses, renovation of schools in the state, youth engagement in governance.

“With these achievements just within two years in office, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni deserves applause from the masses.

“A circular of directives from the National Secretariat of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to all the 36 states to take part of the protest come June 12 across the nation which is the Democracy Day, NANS Yobe/Borno axis, under the Leadership of Comrade Usman Adamu Nagwaza who is the Deputy Senate President of NANS, has disassociated itself from partaking in this protest.

“The directive of self disassociation from the protest of June 12 is for the interest of the States to continue to maintain peace, unity and adequate security.

He called on all the students and youth groups in the states to comply with the security operatives in keeping Yobe and Borno States a safe home for all.
