Okiemute Mrere, the Chief Provost of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Imo State Command has been murdered by gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Mrere was killed along the Owerri- Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Saturday, according to the Punch.

The late officer was riding a Hilux van belonging to NIS when he was allegedly waylaid and killed.

The official added that that the assailants did not take the late Mrere’s service pistol as it was found on him when his corpse was discovered.
