Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt.Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, has said that Nigeria’s democracy is in shambles because of the attitude of governors and other elected political officeholders.
“According to him, the governors have drawn a line or taken a position in which, if you are not their boy or loyalist, you won’t become anybody or get elected at all levels. This is happening in both the major parties, APC and PDP”, he said.
The governors have also blocked chances of the youths to participate in elections, which, he noted, “is a great danger to the future of the country,” he added.
Ghali Na’Abba, who spoke with BBC Hausa Service in Kano and monitored by Neptune Prime’s correspondent, Saleh Inuwa, explained that he spent many years in PDP and later joined APC but he had to quit from all of them because they are birds of the same feather, and are not practising true democracy.
Similarly, Ghali who, when he was speaker led disgruntled members to almost impeach former President Obasanjo lamented that the Buhari administration is also dictatorial because they don’t take advice or listen to those with experience to advise the government on the way forward, that is why the country today he noted his facing series of challenges.
Hon. Ghali Na’Abba has scored this government very low in terms of performance, especially in areas of security and peace. He said that this is an exercise that cannot be corrected because time is not on the side of the government and the reason why he is not a member of any political party.
