Chaos in Lagos as ‘Area Boys’, security operatives clash

There is currently an uproar in the Apapa area of Lagos State following the demolition of makeshift structures belonging to street urchins known as ‘Area Boys’ by security operatives.

According to Daily Trust, the demolition is taking place at the Tin-Can first gate area on the Mile 2-Apapa expressway in the state.

The urchins resisted the demolition, leading to a fracas between the parties.

It was also gathered that the urchins started throwing stones and bottles at the security team, the platform quoting an eyewitness.

“To dislodge the urchins, the task team fired tear gas at the raging crowd of hoodlums.

“Commercial motorcycle riders joined to resist the move and there were sporadic gunshots.”

The joint security team is made up of Policemen, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA) and soldiers.

Eyewitnesses said the joint security team arrived Tin-Can’s first gate axis of the Mile 2-Apapa expressway to dislodge miscreants allegedly responsible for criminal activities in the area.
