Uduak Akpan, alleged killer of job-seeker, Ini Umoren, pleads guilty in Court

The case was before Justice Bennett Illaumoh whilst Mr Uko Udom, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Akwa Ibom State appeared for the State and Mr Adula Sampson represented the accused.

The principal suspect, and first defendant, Uduak-Abasi Akpan was charged for committing murder contrary to section 326(1) of the criminal code, cap 33 vol.2, laws of Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria,2000 and also rape contrary to section 367 of the criminal code, cap 38 vol.2 of the Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria,2000.

He, however, pleaded guilty to the first charge of murder and pleaded not guilty to the second charge bordering on rape.

It should be recalled that Uduak Akpan in March 2021 invited the job seeker to his residence in Nung Ikono Ufok, Uruan local government area for a job interview where he raped, murdered and buried the deceased in a shallow grave in the compound.

The late Iniubong Umoren was a graduate of the University of Uyo awaiting call-up to serve in the National Youth Service Corps when she met her untimely death.

Late Umoren was buried on Friday, May 14, 2021, at her hometown, Nung Ita Ikot Obio Enin Atai in Oruk Anam local government area, Akwa Ibom State.

The case has been adjourned to 18th August 2021 for the next hearing.
