Lagos Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi has refused to grant bail to Mr Kehinde Ashekun, a former Vice Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, who is standing trial before the court for the alleged exportation of 1,000 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The judge in charge of the case, Justice Ayokunle Faji, dismissed Ashekun’s bail application, saying it was lacking in merit.
The court also dismissed a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the former vice-chairman against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Recall that Ashekun was arrested on May 7, 2021, at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja, Lagos, for attempting to smuggle 1,000 kilogrammes of cocaine which was hidden in footwear, to London, United Kingdom.
