Story from Yakubu VENTIM, Jos

Despite honourable Timothy Dantong’s efforts to mislead the public by accusing Fulani herdsmen over the destruction of farmlands located between Kwi and Jol communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Neptune Prime reliably gathered the farmland was destroyed by security officials to prevent security threats in the area.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Honourable Dantong had accused “Fulani herdsmen” for the act and therefore urged the government to “arrest those behind the evil act.”

He went on to complain that “two days back, Fulani militia invaded my constituency and destroyed farmlands with crops, this has been the reason why we have had crises in the past.”

With certainty, he said, “the agenda of the militia is to take over lands that belong to the natives and that is our major concern and we appreciate the State Government for coming up with a bill that seeks to prevent land grabbing in the state and unless we have an enforcement agency that will enforce these laws, our efforts as Government is useless.”

But Neptune Prime gathered from reliable sources that the widow whose picture was circulated online was earlier warned by security personnel not to plant her crops close to the main road but vehemently refused on the account that there was no available space for her to farm and feed her family.

She then started farming even though there was a complaint of threat to the security of lives and properties in the area.

The sources also revealed it was on hearsay that Fulani herdsmen invaded the farmland in the middle of the night and destroyed all the sprouted maize which the woman planted.

The woman, who has since regretted her actions, has expressed worry that her household will not have food next year and pleaded to the federal and state government to come to her assistance.
