In line with the ongoing reconstruction work on the Owerri-Orlu road by Imo State Government, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Nwaorieubi junction of the road in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, was on Thursday, July 1, 2021, demolished, in order to pave the way for the quality road – infrastructural development in the area.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the demolition of the ‘police junction round-about,’ for reconstruction, the chairman, Mbaitoli Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, Eze Clifford Amadi, said that Governor Uzodimma gave traditional rulers in the LGA the directive to monitor and supervise the reconstruction project at the council headquarters, Nwaorieubi, even as he noted that the round-about, built by former governor of the state, Sen. Rochas Okorocha is substandard.

According to the Monarch, the road infrastructure at Nwaorieubi was demolished for reconstruction in order to assist the Cranneburg construction company handling the project in doing a quality job on the road to serve the test of time.

The Mbaitoli Traditional Rulers’ helmsman regretted that the substandard state of the road poses grave danger to lives and properties of motorists, people of Mbaitoli LGA, and other road users.

Also speaking, the chairman of Mbaitoli Youths’ Development Forum, Comrade Uzoma Ekeanyanwu, who lauded Governor Uzodimma’s administration for giving a socio-infrastructural and economic facelift to the council headquarters, Nwaorieubi, also noted that the risk of road accidents at the junction would be reduced, as well as, create easy access to the commercial nerve – centre of the council headquarters, among others.

In his remarks, the vice-chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Monarch of Awaka Autonomous Community in Owerri – North LGA, His Royal Majesty, Eze David Akujuobi, commended the Governor’s desire to rehabilitating and reconstructing dilapidated roads among other basic infrastructural facilities in the Owerri zone, and the entire state.
