Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos

One Simon Chukwunwike, a Nigerian man, has been arrested with two kilogrammes of cocaine at an airport in Pakistan.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday by officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force on arrival at the Sialkot International Airport, Punjab.

It was stated that a search operation was carried out at the international arrival counter of the airport, during which the drug was found on Chukwunwike.

Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking of illegal drugs in Pakistan are severe, and convicted offenders may be given long jail sentences and heavy fines.

Several Nigerians who traffic drugs such as cocaine to the Middle East have been caught up with the long arm of the law in countries of the region and are currently serving their jail terms.

Back home, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been on its toes tracking, bursting and arresting persons caught with hard drugs and other substances thereby making the country unbearable for drug traffickers.
