Story from Bennett JOSHUA, Abuja

Former Vice-Chairman, Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI) and First Interim Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tijjani Musa Tumsah, has lambasted critics of the Mai Mala Buni led Central Convention Planning Committee (CCPC) of the APC over calls for the party’s leadership to step down.

In a statement on Friday in Abuja, the former National Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) who was instrumental in midwifing the formation of the ruling party, described those calling for the dissolution of the APC leadership as ingrates who are quick to forget efforts invested by Buni and his team to resuscitate the party.

Tumsah, in a terse statement, said that prior to Buni’s emergence as the transitional leader of the APC, the party was in a logjam with chieftains and other stakeholders unsure of the future.

He said that “it is on record that the APC was in turmoil with state chapters already almost splitting from the central leadership.

“We remember the crises that rocked the party, for which even President Muhammadu Buhari had to intervene to salvage the party’s fortune.

“We also remember the number of protests after protests which groups staged at the party headquarters here in Abuja calling for the resignation of the former leadership.

“But for the astute leadership skills of Mai Mala Buni, and his ability to bring unity and forge a sense of direction, the APC would’ve been history.”

Tumsah further noted that those calling for the head of the party’s leadership are detractors doing a hatchet job, adding that they are working for the opposition.
