The leaders of the Bauchi central market traders and artisans association have backed the decision of the state government to relocate small scale traders selling goods near streets around the market to the Muda Lawal market.
Recall that the government had given 48 hours notice to the small scale traders to quit the place and relocate to the new place allocated to them at Muda Lawal market as a result of the traffic congestion caused on roads around the central market.

The affected traders however protested against the decision and obtained a court order restraining the government from evicting them from the central market area.
But leaders of the market while addressing journalists on the matter asserted that contrary to the claim by the affected traders, the government’s eviction of the street traders is not meant to witch-hunt them.
Treasurer of the association Alhaji Zubairu Ahmed who spoke at the press conference insisted that the market is too congested and impassable as a result of too many kiosks and stalls put indiscriminately on the streets and at the gates of the markets, making it difficult for vehicles to get access into the market.
He stated that the government had given the affected businessmen notices more than three times to relocate to the new place designated for them but they have failed to evacuate their kiosks, stalls and goods to it.
According to him, three months is enough for the evicted traders to move to the permanent site provided free of charge by the government.
