The President-General, Mbieri Nwaotuoke Union (MNU) in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state, Engineer Fidelis Akuchie, has congratulated women of the seven autonomous communities in the Mbieri clan, on their efforts in attracting development projects in the area.
Speaking during the 2021 August meeting by the women, held at the former Mbieri weaving centre on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, Engr. Akuchie, who commended the women’s wing of the union, led by Lady Margaret Oparaugo (Mama Mbieri), noted that the proposed event centre to be constructed by the women would not only generate revenue for the Mbieri clan but, help in training youths in the area in computer skills acquisition, with the establishment of ICT unit at the event centre.
Also commending the women for other development strides in the recent past, notable among which are; potable water supply and primary health care centre, Akuchie, expressed optimism that the Events centre under construction shall foster unity of purpose among the women, even as he urged their husbands to be supportive of infrastructural projects embarked on by the women in Mbieri nation.
According to him, there is an urgent need for sustainability of capital projects kick-started by the women, as he announced that the member representing Mbaitoli state – a constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, and indigene of Mbieri clan, Rt. Hon. Okey Onyekamma had earlier made a cash donation of N500,000 to support the women.
In the same vein, the chairman of Mbieri Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Highness, Eze Peter Opara, who spoke on behalf of monarchs of the seven autonomous communities, advised the women to challenge well-meaning indigenes of the area, especially, those recently conferred with chieftaincy titles across the seven communities, to assist in community development in the overall best interest of Mbieri Nwaotuoke clan.
Highlights of the occasion include; procession for thanksgiving by the women of the seven autonomous communities in Mbieri nation, as well as, award of honour to deserving women in the area, who distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour instrumental to community development.
