The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has flagged off the empowerment program for 500 women and girls across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed this in a statement at the flag-off distribution of empowerment materials, adding that empowered women are vital to holding social vices and resolving the nation’s economic challenges.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, Governor AbdulRazaq also revealed that one of the policy thrusts of this administration is to create an enabling environment and equal opportunities for the women “who are the bedrock of socio-economic development in the society.”

He added that the participation of women in governance and socio-political activities will not only arrest the drift in economic trends but also bring governance closer to homes.

While assuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence will face the law, Governor AbdulRazaq appealed to beneficiaries to use the empowerment equipment judiciously to better their lives and earn a living.

Earlier, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bosede Aremu noted that the distribution of the empowerment materials is a demonstration of government support for women through empowerment to reach their full potentials and capabilities.

The empowerment equipment includes refrigerators, generating sets, sewing machines, grinding machines, makeup kits, and hair driers.
